Aim:
This paper will discuss the methods and results of recruiting men who have sex with men (MSM) for online HIV prevention activities.

Method / Issue:
The Internet presents an efficient and anonymous opportunity to include MSM in HIV prevention, yet there are few studies addressing the methods by which to obtain participants. This study examined the effectiveness of ethnically tailored Internet banner advertisements for increasing recruitment of MSM, particularly Native American, Hispanic and African American MSM. The study also incorporated banners that included a general statement about HIV and a picture of a white male. Banners were placed on a popular gay chat/profile website.

Results / Comments:
Results of recruitment, as well as methods and barriers of wording, designing, and posting banner advertisements will be discussed.
