Show the beneficial effect of community-based organizations technical capacity building on the continuum of PLWHIV Care
Method / Issue:
This is a prospective study begun in January 2012 and which is in progress. ? Our approach was to select in collaboration with health district managers, a local community organization with proven experience in the field of fight against HIV. ? We then proceeded to the training of members of these organizations to national modules linked to HIV community base care. These modules were focused on adherence to treatment, psychosocial support, the communication approach for prevention of STI/HIV, networking between associative organization and health facility. ? Activities package has been elaborated and provided with data collection tools. ? Finally, a payment of premium based on performance has been introduced.
Results / Comments:
? 24 local organizations have been selected in 32 health districts with 192 community agents trained. ? Results obtained are : ? 3639 PLWHA tested and referred from the community to health facilities. ? 6851 PLWHA under ART received support to adherence in the community. ? 20565 PVVIH received psychosocial support in the community. ? 764 PLWIHIV with co-infection TB received support to adherence by DOTS method and sensitization for prevention of STI in the community. ? 123 patients declared lost in the health facilities have also been found in the community.
The involvement of community organizations in HIV in the scope of the continuum of Care requires necessarily technical capacity building and networking with health facilities.
