Aim:
Prevention and stigmatization at workplace are still real problems that we meet on the ground. Their consequence is the fact that it becomes very hard and difficult to address efficient and relevant actions to help and provide care as necessary to those concerned by the infection, more when they are not able to be productive. So with the support of a psychologist, we tried to implement an innovative and participative strategy in a mining company.

Method / Issue:
We used to set interviews with workers individually in order to catch and better understand what were the real reasons that made them avoid involving the plans and programs set internally to prevent HIV infection. Moreover we made focus groups to help those who hesitate to give their point of view during the interviews. That first step took six months. At the end of this period we made an analysis of the data we had collected through those interviews and focus groups. We could then notice some factors that could explain the situation lived by the workers towards preventive programs: - the fear of stigmatization - the lack of right information about HIV/AIDS - the ignorance of the programs set in the company - the weak commitment of company officials to sustain the programs - the lack of extra time to involve in the activities set The second step was to discuss with some workers and their representatives in order to think together to a solving action to overcome this problem. Finally the workers made several proposals and they unanimously kept back one strategy that they decided to share with their colleagues and to implement. This strategy was to set what they called “support clubs” in the different departments of the company. These “support club’s” main aim would be to regroup all kind of workers in the department, both infected known and the non-infected ones, so that there would more be to deal with the question of stigmatization. The big idea behind that was as they said : “together as one against a common enemy, even if you are not already directly concerned.”

Discussion:
We could remark that when strategies are imagined and proposed by the beneficiaries themselves it became easier to have the maximum to adhere and effectively commit to the plan they’ve set.
