Aim:
to offer a different perspective on HIV/AIDS utilizing art and culture.

Method / Issue:
SOTA is an exhibition in which HIV/AIDS is portrayed through two perspective- by those living with it and those who see it from the outsise. PLHIV were asked to depict in their art work what life with HIV/AIDS means. by the use of drawings, paintings, photography and texts. on the other hand, visual communications students were given an exercise to depict HIV/AIDS by choosing from a list of opposing pairs (positive/negative, sick/healthy, etc.), the students were unaware, at first, that HIV/AIDS was the theme of the exercise until they met with me to hear my personal story with HIV/AIDS.

Results / Comments:
the result is a unique exhibition offering a non-judgemental view on the subject, allowing PLHIV to show the world what life with the disease means and how we deal with it personaly and internally. at the same time, SOTA allows the studens, as well as the viewer, to deal with a difficult topic with the "cushioning" only art can offer.
