Aim:
Before 2000, people submitted on the HIV test in the various hospitals of the west province were not informed; consequently, the result of the test was not rendered to them, be it negative or positive. In West Provincial Health Unit, it has become imperative to put in place the HIV counselling structures before testing, and also to make sure that the result of HIV test be rendered to each individual asking or submitted to that test, after enlightened opinion.

Method / Issue:
An official centre for information on the HIV infection was created. A HIV/AIDS counsellor trained and asked to coordinate the centre. But she could not work without PLWA involvement. This is the reason our NGO was implicated. The main activities of the centre were: - Counselling ; - Sensitization ; - Films; - Library, - Open voluntary public testimonies Till end 2000, only 5 to 10 persons were tested per month in the centre and only 50% of the result was rendered. During the year, efforts were made in order to identify, train, and regroup PLWA. Three Associations of PLWA were involved in the HIV counselling structure of the centre. At the end of the year, the first free testing campaign was organised. The number of the HIV tests climbed considerably and reached 80 per month at the end of the year 2001 and most results were withdrawn.

Results / Comments:
The support given by PLWA to the centre carries out 380 HIV tests par month.

Discussion:
The experience has been extended to 07 districts hospitals in the province and will be raised up to 17 before December 2006. This collaboration as brought a joint project supervised by COLIBRI and CPDV, financed by the European Union. P.S. I need scholarship to attend the conference
