The real situation of living with HIV/AIDS in Poland. Stigma and discrimination.

Method / Issue:
Taking personal questionnaire and personal interview about living with HIV/AIDS in Poland with Polish HIV people who are meeting on Polish national meeting for People Living with HIV/AIDS.

Results / Comments:
In Poland People living with HIV/AIDS have still social problems. They afraid tell family about infection. Very often they lose their job after someone knows about HIV. We have still situation that infected children are throw out from school. HIV people cant go for sanatorium. New infected people after 2002 are young people between 20-29. They afraid taking pills because someone can find about their infection

Discussion:
In Poland people still have mitts about HIV. We think, that HIV is problem prostitute, homosexual people and drug users. Normal people think that its not their problem. But they have small knowledge about HIV, so their afraid when knew about someone infection. Factors which contribute to HIV/AIDS-related stigma : - HIV/AIDS is a life-threatening disease - People are scared of contracting HIV - The disease's is associated with behaviors (such as sex between men and injecting drug-use) that are already stigmatized in many societies -People living with HIV/AIDS are often thought of as being responsible for becoming infected - Religious or moral beliefs lead some people to believe that having HIV/AIDS is the result of moral fault (such as promiscuity or 'deviant sex') that deserves to be punished. The government dont give enough money for prophylactic and special program for people living with HIV/AIDS. We need special campaign about living with HIV/AIDS. But I think now one from HIV people shake hands on be on billboards.
