					| Aim: The presentation forms part of a larger PhD project that aims to adapt and evaluate the effectiveness of a self-help intervention program to reduce depressive symptoms among people living with HIV (PLH) in Botswana. The presentation will report on findings of a literature review study on depressive symptoms among PLH in Botswana and other countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The literature review will focus on the prevalence of depressive symptoms, risk factors, maintaining factors and available psychosocial interventions for depression among PLH in Botswana and other countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

					| Method / Issue: A systematic search for available literature on the topic of depression among PLH in sub-Saharan Africa will be performed in academic search engines such as Google scholar, PsycINFO, MedLine, AIDSLINE, AIDSSearch, ERIC, and PubMed.
The goal of this literature review is to increase the understanding of HIV and depression among PLH in Botswana and the rest of sub-Saharan Africa, therefore, a qualitative approach to data analysis will be adopted. In this approach, once the articles have been classified as relevant or irrelevant, narrative summaries of the articles and a coding scheme will be developed in order to ensure that all important information in the articles is considered (Randolph, 2009). Thereafter, essential themes from the documents will be identified.
