Title: Women and HIV - a focus on gender Abstract (100 words): In 2007, 15.4 million women were living with HIV, i.e. 46.3% of all infections worldwide and 61% in Sub-Saharan Africa. HIV-specific prevention and care needs differ from a gender perspective but also throughout the female life course. This presentation addresses vulnerability of girls and young women, sexual and reproductive health and positive prevention needs incl. sexual risk reduction and PMTCT failure for women in their reproductive ages. Finally, life course changes for mature women and related HIV-specific needs are addressed. To break the cycle of transmitting HIV to the next generation all HIV programs should work effectively for women.
