Aim:

Syndemics theory, posits that synergistic epidemics, such as those of poor mental health, alcohol use, violence and poverty combine to amplify HIV risk, acquisition and transmission. It is likely that syndemic relationships also affect uptake of and engagement in HIV prevention and care cascades although little work has been done to explicitly explore this among populations from sub-Saharan Africa. Preliminary data to explore the relationships between poverty, mental health, violence and uptake of services collected from both the general population and from female sex workers in Zimbabwe will be presented.
