  Aim:
Social reintegration through enhanced skills development. A highly stigmatised sexually marginalized community with low levels of literacy and lack of employability skills endangers them to risk taking behaviours.

  Method / Issue:
Under the national programme HIV prevention, the Government of India has many targeted intervention projects with transgender population in Delhi. The aim is to reach out to most- at- risk sexual minority community through peer education, condom promotion and provision of health including counselling and testing services. Through needs assessment analysis, it was realised that most transgender people had a strong desire to acquire employability skills of their choice for gainful livelihood for quality life. Vocational education and skills training was thus dovetailed into one of the existing intervention project to further engage with this highly stigmatised community. Beauty culture courses and dance lessons were most sought after courses.

  Results / Comments:
The paper will discuss the process of livelihood empowerment and need for enhanced partnership with private sectors.

  Discussion:
Targeted interventions aiming at reducing sexual risks are good mechanisms to reach out to most vulnerable populations but they may not be sustainable in the long run. Livelihood skills not only enhances self-esteem but also facilitates social reintegration.
