Abstract #64  -  Empowering, children, adolescent and youth on NPT

  Aim:
The New HIV Vaccine and Microbicide Advocacy Society (NHVMAS) focuses on facilitating a conducive political and social environment to support New HIV Prevention (NPT) technology research and possible future uptake of products. One of its cardinal programme is to address research literacy among youths. This abstracts shares about our views and observation in the field with respect to HIV prevention education among children, adolescent and youths.
 
  Method / Issue:
NHVMAS conducted one day training for children, adolescents and youths within the age of 6 – 29years attending the Life builders Camp at Olashore International School, Iloko, Nigeria. The participants were eighty-nine in numbers. A day training for children, adolescent and youths in one of the states in Nigeria addressing the need for New HIV Prevention Technology (NPT). It was an interacting session in the sense that six out of eight-nine shared their vision of the World. The topics addressed were: • Importance of a Vaccine and how Vaccine had changed the history of diseases, of women to HIV infection • Need to enhance the ability of women to protect themselves from HIV infection • Problems associated with HIV serodiscordants, and the need for PreP
 
  Results / Comments:
There is need to create more awareness among children, adolescent and youths on basic of the New HIV Prevention Technology (NPT) especially in rural churches and communities. Training does help a long way. Inclusion of this information in school based educational programmes is one step in the right direction.
 
  Discussion:
Children, adolescents and youths can be reached with the basics of New HIV Prevention Technology (NPT) so that they are equally prepared for the future.
